Facial skin care products
It is essential to understand the role of each product and how it
contributes to facial skin. Given below is a guide that will help understand the
role of each facial skin care product:
* Facial skin care begins with cleansers; they help in the exfoliation of the
skin and are gentle on the skin. There are special facial cleansing gels to
remove facial make-up. Facial cleansers also refresh the skin.
* Moisturizers are essential to good facial skin care, they help improving the
quality, color, suppleness, and clarity of the skin and help restore collagen in
the skin too. They are available for both day and night use.
* Peel-off facial gels help to refresh the skin by peeling off the upper layer
of dirt and residues thus leaving behind a fresh layer of skin.
* Anti-aging gels help keep those lines and stretches off the facial skin by
hydrating and moisturizing them. There are line- erasing serums too that help in
keeping off the lines.
* Beauty masks help in improving blood circulation and in eliminating impurities
from the skin. Clay contains a lot of minerals that help fill the pores of the
skin; and many a face mask is clay based.
Professional Beauty Facial Skin Care
To follow a facial routine you have to understand your skin type before you
proceed. Facial skin can be broadly classified into five types and it is
mandatory to follow a routine for the facial skin according to the skin type.
The five skin types are dry skin, normal skin, oily skin, sensitive skin and
combination skin. Categorize your skin type and then select a facial care
routine for yourself. For beginners it is highly essential to take some
professional help on choosing the type of facial treatment that will suit you
and your skin. A facial is a cosmetic procedure done by an aesthetician to
cleanse and maintain good skin. This procedure involves cleansing, exfoliation,
massage and application of a face masque to suit your skin type.
Aroma facials: Aromatic oils are extensively used in beauty care and depending
on the skin type and requirement oils are chosen for facials. Each type of oil
has its own characteristic and acts as an essential provider to the skin, oils
improve the overall moisturizing of the facial skin. For e.g. if the elasticity
of the skin needs a pep, then eucalyptus oil is chosen.
Acne facials: These facials are prominently done on people who face the wrath of
acne, pimples, blackheads etc. Their skin is treated with masks and mixtures
that have an effect on acne and other facial skin ailments.
Fruit facial: Nature’s bounty can be used for facial skin care. Fruits like
papaya, banana, orange etc. are used for facials, the fruit is either directly
used on the face or the juice is extracted and used for massaging the facial
skin. This facial massage slowly and steadily brings a glow to the face that no
other chemical based facial can induce. Check out if the fruit you have chosen
suits your facial skin type else you might land up with skin rashes.
Bio-lift facial: This is mainly for people who have slowly started to begin to
lose the elasticity in their skin due to age. Masks are applied to tighten the
skin that has become loose; Dermatologists will be able to throw better light on
the type of mask that has to be chosen for your skin type.
Pearl facial: A combination of sea oil, sea scrub and the precious moisturizing
cream with pearls is used for this facial. Pearl has been verified
scientifically to possess a blend of natural substances that invigorate and
improve the quality of facial skin cells. It gives facial skin the required
hydration and leaves it supple, soft, tight, and young.
Gold facial: Gold cream and gold gels are the chief components in this facial
massage. Sandalwood, aloe Vera, wheat germ oil along with gold is used in the
cream for massage. This facial helps in lymphatic draining and getting rid of
the toxins and wastes in the skin. Improved blood circulation, skin elasticity,
revitalizing the skin and keeping wrinkles and lines at bay is the main endeavor
of this facial.
Collagen facial: This facial treatment involves use of exfoliation and lymphatic
drainage massage. It is followed by mineral or paraffin masks over a collagen
sheet.
Photofacial: This facial treatment involves use of gentle pulsed light
treatments. Photofacials aid skins that have suffered the ravages of sun
exposure and can reduce acne scars and skin texture irregularities. Photofacials
are done in a series of about 5 sittings and work at reducing large pores,
rosacea and age spots. A mild numbing cream is applied to reduce any discomfort
felt during this process. The effects can last for a couple of years.
Beauty Sleep: Tip to make the most of skin's downtime and wake up with a
new glow
If the number of night creams coming onto the market is any indication, the
right time to pamper your skin is when you hit the sack: Last year consumers
spent about $56 million on nighttime moisturizers alone. Although no scientific
studies have been published comparing nighttime with daytime products, there may
be some advantages to treating your skin while you slumber.
Cosmetic chemists know, for example, that many anti-aging ingredients stay
active longer when they're not exposed to sunlight. Retinoids, which speed cell
turnover, "can break down chemically with light exposure and become
ineffective," says Julian Omidi, MD, a dermatologist in private practice in Los
Angeles. Other "anti-agers"--such as topical vitamins, including C and E--don't
hold up well in sunlight or air. They're in both day and night products, but you
probably get more antioxidant bang for your buck when you apply them before you
go to sleep.
Nighttime also gives you an 8-hour opportunity to hydrate skin with formulations
that don't mix well with foundation or that might give you a sheen you'd rather
not show in the light of day. These superhydrators not only attract moisture to
the skin but also prevent it from evaporating from the skin's surface. There's
some evidence, too, that skin may be more receptive to active ingredients when
you're sleeping, because "they don't have to compete with the sun, pollution, or
makeup; the product just gets to do its work," says Cristina Carlino, CEO of
Philosophy, a line of skin care products.
Researchers are learning that skin works harder to rejuvenate itself on the
night shift, says Alex Khadavi, MD, an associate professor of dermatology at the
University of Southern California. "Skin cell regeneration is slightly faster at
night than during the day," he says. Sheldon Pinnell, MD, whose research at Duke
University more than a decade ago put vitamin C products on many women's
nightstands, agrees: "Sleep hours are a potent time for your body to repair
itself, skin included."
Here are tips for adding more beauty to your sleep:
# Sleep flat on your back: Smashing your face into a pillow creates fold lines
that eventually become permanent if they're repeated every night. Spending time
on your back also helps counter the effects of gravity that accumulate during
the day. In a recent study of 38 women and men, Japanese researchers found there
was greater wrinkling in the afternoon than in the morning; they concluded that
the face literally falls with gravity
as the day progresses. At night, you get a chance to reverse that.
# Stay hydrated: "Keeping skin moist from the inside out is a simple, relatively
inexpensive, and quite effective moisturizer," says Pinnell. Drink six to eight
glasses of plain water throughout the day and include omega-3 fatty acids (found
in fish and nuts) in your diet, says Dale Prokupek, MD, a Beverly Hills
internist and an associate professor of gastroenterology and nutrition at UCLA.
To help avoid moisture loss from the skin while sleeping, turn on a humidifier.
"I used one in my bedroom for a dry throat problem and soon realized my skin
never looked better," he says. (Be sure to clean the humidifier often,
especially if you're prone to allergies.)
# Use a moisturizer after bathing: Seal in the moisture that the topmost layer
of your skin has absorbed with a hydrating body lotion or cream. Because you're
going to bed--not pulling on a silk blouse or cashmere sweater--you can try a
body cream that's richer than you would feel comfortable wearing during the day,
such as Nivea Body Renewal Night Cream ($10; drugstores). Just before bed is a
perfect time to slather your feet--especially dry heels--with a healing,
hydrating cream such as Aveeno Intense Relief Foot Cream ($6; drugstores). And a
sweep of Sally Hansen Beyond Perfect Healing Cuticle Oil ($5; drugstores) on
your nails will keep the cuticles soft and prevent tears. For a final
moisturizing touch, massage your hands with Dove Regenerating Hand Cream.
Some Ways to Pamper Your Face Applying Facial
It's important to take care of your face as you age. What with rising
pollution levels and a busy schedule, years could just fly by before you pause
to look into the mirror one day to suddenly notice a stranger. You look at the
reflection with horror, skin that has lost its youthful sheen, puffy eyes with
dark circles and a face dotted with freckles, scars and pits. A few minutes of
everyday care can put off this eventuality for a long time to come. Here are
some tips to guide you along.
To shake the sleep off your eyes and refresh your skin in the early mornings you
could splash your face with water in which tea leaves have been boiled.
Wash your face with a moisturizing face wash after you have been outdoors. With
pollution levels rising, its important to keep your face protected from grime.
Never go to sleep with make up on. Wipe your face clean with a cleansing lotion
and use a good moisturizing face wash like Ayur Honey & lemon.
Always wear a suitable Suntan that suits your skin, when you step out in the
sun. Biotique and Garnier have a sunscreen range you may like to try.
Pamper your eyes. Cut cucumber in round slices and place them over your eyes or
alternatively dip used tea bags in salt water and put them in the fridge and put
a pair over your eyes after a hard days work.
Try the lion pose a facial yoga pose, which involves sticking your tongue out as
far as possible, flexing your facial muscles as much as possible and opening
your eyes as wide as possible simultaneously and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat
thrice every morning.
Alternatively you could also indulge in an intense 10 minute french kiss with
your partner, which also gets the blood rushing to your face.
Treat yourself to a soothing facial every month, especially if you are past 25
years of age. You could also do a home facial, which includes giving yourself a
light facial massage with a soothing moisturizing cream and ice cubes, followed
by steaming your face. Then remove white heads around the nose and chin with a
remover and use a good scrub like Biotique papaya scrub or Lotus Almond scrub
depending on your skin type and wash off with warm water. Then use a Biotique
cucumber lotion to seal the opened pores. Finally apply a soothing fruit mask
like the Himalayas Fruit Pack or Biotique Fruit pack and follow up with a
moisturizing lotion.
A simple face pack that can make your skin glow is a mixture of egg white and
few drops of lemon juice. Apply this to your face and wait till completely dry
and then wash off with warm water.
A mixture of carrot and radish juice taken every morning garnished with mint
leaves can do wonders to the health of your skin.
Drink 12 glasses of water daily to flush toxins out of the system and keep your
skin hydrated.
Tips on facial skin care
* Do not sleep on your sides as you are likely to develop fold lines on the
face that will eventually become permanent.
* Avoid excessive use of soaps to cleanse the face; instead opt for gentler face
wash gels.
* Drink plenty of water to keep the skin well hydrated.
* Do not expose the skin to sunlight unless well protected by sunscreen block.
Facial skin care at home
Getting some good care for your facial skin at the comforts of your own home
is fantastic and rejuvenating both for your skin and you. You get to relax after
the routine and your facial skin gets to breathe better after the routine. Given
below is a guide to simple facial skin care methods at home.
* Wash your face with plenty of warm water and moisturize the skin by gently
massaging with olive oil. Take some sugar and scrub against your face till it
melts off, this forms an excellent scrub to exfoliate the dead skin off your
facial skin. Wipe up your face with a tepid damp cloth.
* If your skin is too oily and you are a constant victim of acne, ensure you
wash your face at regular intervals thus keeping acne at bay.
* Remove facial and eye makeup using olive oil, this helps removing the makeup
and simultaneously moisturizes the skin.
* Daily use of makeup, constant exposure to pollution and various other factors
contribute to early aging of the facial skin. Make a toning mixture by mixing
equal parts of vinegar and water and dissolve couple of aspirins in them.
Vinegar helps shredding off the dead skin and aspirin helps lightening acne
spots and keeps a check on acne formation. |
